Tiranga – The superhero character created by Hanif Azhar for Raj Comics. However, as soon as it was introduced, many compared it to ‘Captain America’ just because of the costume and shield. Apart from that, there is no similarity between them. Tiranga has not been frozen in ice for 75 years, nor has anyone experimented on him. The characters are quite different. If we look at Tiranga’s story, it is unique; he does not kill villains like Doga, nor has he taken an oath like Dhruva that he will never commit murder. We have seen this in the Kargil comics where he refrains from killing Pakistani soldiers. Tiranga is a spy who works as a well-known lawyer, Satyaprakash, during the day and solves cases with the Commissioner of Delhi at night as Tiranga.
Tiranga ‘s debut happened in the first ‘Danga’ comics. Some goons set off a bomb on a cart, pushing it towards the soldiers trying to stop the riot. But before the bomb collides with the soldiers, a shield turns the cart aside, and a person throws the bombs into a well, eliminating the troublemakers. When the soldiers and the public ask for his name, he introduces himself as Tiranga. We don’t find outTiranga’s identity in the ‘Danga’ comics. We learn in the next part, ‘Jiddi’ comics, that V is Abhay Deshpande, the son of Constable Ramnath, who becomesTiranga in anger after witnessing his father’s condition. However, he cannot save his family because in the ‘Kafan’ comics, some assassins shoot Abhay’s parents and sister and set their house on fire. Tiranga thinks everyone has died, but his misunderstanding is cleared in the ‘Hawaldar’ comics, where a robotic constable is shown dispensing justice to criminals and even clashing with Tiranga. In the ‘Khoon Ne Badla Rang’ comics, we find out that it is not someone else but Hawaldar Ramnath himself.

The way Tricolor was introduced in Raj Comics made it seem like Raj Comics had found another superhero. To some extent, they did, but the way Tricolor was copied from foreign villains was quickly noticed by readers, making them feel cheated. Perhaps no other superhero comic has experienced such a situation. That might be why Tricolor never made it to the main list of heroes. Although he appeared with some superheroes at times, even then, if we look, Tricolor’s solo comics digest is hard to find. Moreover, it also stopped coming out later. However, Raj Comics continues to present him in multi-star specials. Along with that, there have been some changes in his attire, such as replacing the shield with the Ashok Chakra and using a triangular shield instead of the round one.
Raj Comics has shown in the ‘Sarvamanthan’ comics how Tricolor’s life was before he was Tricolor, when he was Abhay Deshpande and joined a secret organization called ‘X.’ They trained Abhay in the art of war, and he soon became a dangerous weapon. His only goal was to eliminate the enemies of the country. Raj Comics probably revealed this because some readers always wanted to know how Abhay learned the art of combat without any training. Tricolor has many enemies like ‘Bujh Paheli,’ ‘Dar Master,’ ‘Putli Bai,’ ‘Fullstop,’ but there are also some enemies who, despite being enemies, save Tricolor’s life, such as ‘Nakchali,’ ‘Vishankha.’ A unique characteristic of Tricolor’s enemies is that they are tormented by society, and their common goal is ‘revenge.
