Inspector Cheetah – the name holds as much significance as the stripes on a cheetah. It’s renowned within the police department. Even before joining the department, in college and school, he was known by this name. The residents of the neighborhood also had the same perception. And even his mother affirms that he truly is like a cheetah. While his physique may not resemble that of a cheetah, his mind, agility, sharp eyes, and the courage to take on challenges are all akin to a cheetah’s traits.
Adept, vigilant, and astute, he was dubbed as the “Cheetah of Law” due to his prowess. At one point, there was a notorious criminal named Kundan, for whom committing crimes was a routine affair. However, when the heat of his crimes jeopardized his own family, as the chief of his gang, Bichchu alias Dang, eliminated his father, who was none other than Cheetah, a police officer himself, along with his mother. That’s when his eyes opened, and he turned into an informant, leading to the downfall of his own gang, Bichchu, and eventually settling in Mumbai.
After undergoing rigorous training with the Mumbai Police Department, he embraced the mantle of law enforcement to root out crime. However, he faced a challenge: Doga, the night vigilante who upheld justice by breaking the law. Cheetah couldn’t stand anyone flouting the law, and thus began a cat-and-mouse game between them. Despite countless attempts, Cheetah never managed to catch Doga. Not because he couldn’t, but because he didn’t want to. He knew that if this guardian of Mumbai sided with the police, the city would become a haven for criminals. Despite saving Doga’s life several times and knowing his secret, Cheetah never revealed it. After all his uncles, Cheetah was the first outsider who knew that Suraj was indeed Doga. And ever since discovering that Monica loves Suraj and wants to marry him, he resigns from his position to avoid any betrayal. As circumstances change and Doga’s secret is revealed to Monica, Cheetah openly extends his help to Doga.
In the early issues of the Doga comics, specifically in the second or third installment titled “Main Hoon Doga,” the encounter between Suraj and Inspector Cheetah is depicted. Cheetah was investigating a case of violence at the Lion Gym, where he meets Suraj. Soon, Cheetah begins to suspect that Suraj is actually Doga. To uncover this secret, he resorts to various tactics, even announcing a showdown between Suraj and Doga, knowing that if Suraj is Doga, only one of them would appear. However, just at the right moment, Adrak Chacha, disguised as Doga, enters the ring in front of Suraj, thus preventing Doga’s identity from being exposed.
The reason why he is called Cheetah becomes clear from this move, but when Doga saves Inspector Cheetah’s sister Monika and Inspector Cheetah himself is sometimes the criminal Kundan, he conceals this secret from everyone. Yet, he still helps him. In fact, in the Lomdi comics, he doesn’t hesitate to even raise his hand against his sister and brings Doga there while she is unconscious.
While Doga is considered a criminal by all the police officers, Cheetah sees him as a protector of society. Perhaps that’s why, when he learns that Monika loves Suraj, he resigns from the police department, chooses his family over duty, and quits the force. He knows that sooner or later, under pressure from the police, he would have to catch Doga, and he never wanted that.
In Time Over comics, we get a chance to delve into Cheetah’s personal life, where he was in love with someone named Rajni. Rajni runs a newspaper where she prints the crimes happening around and has a special column in her newspaper named after Doga, although she despises Doga’s methods and often writes against him. We learn about Rajni and Cheetah’s past in Time Over comics, where they were together since college, but the love was one-sided. Cheetah got a chance to come closer to Rajni when a mysterious assassin started targeting Rajni’s family one by one, and when Cheetah and Doga started investigating the assassin, it became a puzzle for Cheetah to solve to save his own life.
The story of Cheetah and Rajni is depicted in Race Comics, where their emotional journey is shown. Cheetah has now left his job in the police department because he knows that Doga has taken up the mantle of wearing the uniform to save people and eliminate criminals, so he has no regret in leaving his uniform behind. However, he has opened a private detective agency where he not only handles his cases but also assists Doga when needed.
