Pret Uncle Bhootraja Review – A Terrifying Supernatural Classic of Raj Comics
Pret Uncle (Jacob) faces the terrifying Bhootraja in one of the most supernatural and thrilling adventures from Raj Comics.

That was the era of golden memories, when the magic of Raj Comics was on the mind of every child. While on one hand there were the times of great heroes like Nagraj, Dhruv, and Doga, on the other hand a protector who himself was a ghost emerged from the darkness of supernatural mysteries, ‘Pret Uncle’ (Jacob). His dreadful offering in this series is ‘Bhootraja’, which takes the reader into the whirlpool of tantra-mantra and black magic, where death is waiting in ambush at every step.

When the earth burst and the age-old dreadful ‘phantom machine’ came out

The story begins with a terrible earthquake in Rajnagar. This earthquake is not ordinary; it has torn open the chest of the earth and thrown out ancient mysteries buried for centuries. Here writer ‘Tika Ram Sippy’ has created suspense in a very good way. Some rare things come out from under the earth, the most important of which is the ‘phantom machine’. Irie, who is Jacob’s (Pret Uncle’s) mentor and a powerful tantrik, finds the instrument. This instrument is not an ordinary toy but has the power to control and calm the souls that have been wandering for thousands of years.

Dealer of Death vs. Spiritual Strength: Clash of Characters

The choice of characters in the story is very effective:

Pret Uncle (Jacob): The hero, who is a powerful phantom but has a kind heart like humans.

Irie (Mahaguru): A symbol of intelligence and spiritual practice, showing the careful use of power.

Bhootraja: A scary villain wearing a green cloak, resembling a skeleton. His aim is to rule the world by acquiring the ‘phantom machine’.

Baby: A little girl who adds emotional depth and innocence to the story.

Takla and Ganju: Jacob’s faithful skeletal companions, who add a dash of humor (comedy) even in the midst of trouble.

Poison, not magic: When ‘Bhootraja’ spread the demonic outbreak of smallpox

The story takes an interesting turn when Bhootraja, after losing a direct fight to Irie, hatches a sordid plot. He sends his henchman ‘Ghovinda’ to Irie’s cave. Ghovinda uses a ‘phantom gun’ that releases the germs of ‘smallpox’. It was a unique idea—the use of biological weapons in a world of supernatural powers. Irie’s entire phantom army is struck by the disease. This scene disturbs the reader and clearly shows the cruelty of the villain. When Jacob returns, he finds his family-like phantom group in agony.

The height of human cruelty: When the great hero collided with ‘Tiger’

A human conflict is also shown in the middle of the story. A gangster named ‘Tiger’ wants to demolish an orphanage/hostel and build a five-star hotel there. This part shows that Jacob not only fights ghosts but also teaches a lesson to the real ‘demons’ of society, i.e., greedy humans. The scenes of Jacob stopping the giant crane with one hand and brutally beating the goons show his limitless physical strength well.

‘Pret Commando’ guards the snowy valleys of the Himalayas

While Irie and the rest of the apparitions are dying of smallpox, Jacob has to go to the difficult peaks of the Himalayas to find a solution. There he meets the ‘phantom commandos’. These are strange but dangerous creatures with a frog-like appearance that protect Mahaguru’s cave. Jacob’s battle with these commandos and then proving his truth gives the story a rocket-like pace. It is here that ‘Jippy’ (Mahaguru’s disciple) enters, who gives Jacob the treatment for smallpox.

Bloody battle of the cemetery: The dreadful end to the laughter of ‘Bhootraja’

In the climax (Climax), Bhootaraja has kidnapped Baby and Irie’s friend. He keeps them imprisoned in his ‘phantom lab’. The final battle takes place at Bhootaraja’s secret base. Here ‘Irie’ comes back with the power of his sadhana and launches a strong attack along with Jacob. The most exciting part is when Bhootaraja tries to merge with his grave spirit ‘Pret Kathu’ to save himself. But the divine rays of Jacob’s agility and Irie’s ‘tantric punishment’ put an end to Bhootaraja’s sins forever.

The thrill of colors and the magic of lines: Vinod Kumar’s unmatched artwork

The illustrator of this comic is ‘Vinod Kumar’, and his work is the life of this creation; Bhootraja’s green cloak and his burning red eyes make him truly scary, which enhances its visual effects. The ‘fluidity’ shown in Jacob’s fighting style and his body structure is amazing, and the creature designs of strange characters like the Phantom Commandos and Ghovinda are very original and attractive to children.

Echo of words and moral lessons: Tika Ram Sippy’s powerful writing

The author has brought life to the story through dialogues. The confrontation between Bhootaraja’s arrogant dialogue and Jacob’s sense of justice is very well written. The banter between Takla and Ganju lightens the heavy atmosphere of the story. “Evil only results in evil”—this simple message is the essence of the entire story, leaving a deep impression on the minds of readers.

On the test of adventure: The merits of ‘Bhootraja’ and some unresolved questions

The biggest feature of this comic is its speed. The author has very clearly threaded many ‘sub-plots’ (hostel scandal and tantric war) into one narrative. Jacob and Baby’s emotional relationship saves the story from being merely an ‘action comic’ and adds human emotions to it. However, some readers may feel that such a big villain as ‘Bhootraja’ ended a little too early, but considering the overall thrill of the story, it is a great experience.

Final Decision: Why does this spiritual story win hearts even today?

‘Bhootraja’ is such a legacy of Raj Comics that it looks equally special even in today’s times. It teaches us that the real importance of power lies in its ability to protect others. Jacob’s character proves that a person becomes great not by his race or species (phantom), but by his deeds.

This 62-page journey is a cocktail of magic, mystery, and heroism that every comics lover must read at least once. This is not just a story, but a golden memory of the period when we used to find our whole world in these colorful pages.
