Whenever there is talk of creativity and powerful stories in the history of Indian comics, Sanjay Gupta’s name comes at the top. Through Alpha Comics, he has given a new universe to Indian readers, which is not only full of brilliant international-level art, but also presents a tremendous combination of our own rooted stories and modern science. The newest and most effective character of this publication is “Kotwal”. Kotwal is not an ordinary masked warrior; rather, he is a hero born from the cruelty, superstition, and scientific experiments of society, whose four hands make him the most unique protector in the world. The detail and emotional depth with which Alpha Comics has presented this character prove that Indian comics are no longer limited to entertainment only, but have become a strong medium to attack the evils of society.

New megastar of Indian comics: Why is ‘Kotwal’ of Alpha Comics the most unique?

Alpha Comics’ offering, ‘Kotwal’, brings a major change to the Indian superhero genre. The main character of this comic, ‘Manas’, has been a victim of society’s hatred and greed since childhood due to his physical appearance. Having four hands from birth made him different from other children, but Alpha Comics did not just show it as a weakness or a miracle; instead, it turned it into a ‘boon’ that becomes the greatest weapon against injustice.

Kotwal looks like an ancient god, but his struggles and challenges are completely relevant to today’s times. He smokes cigars, uses heavy chains and weapons like tridents, and pretends to be a ‘Kotwal’ while delivering justice in the dark streets of the city where the law has no reach. Through this character, Alpha Comics has created the image of an ‘anti-hero’ who is a terror for enemies and a ray of hope for the destitute.

Four-handed justice: The dark truth of Manas’s birth and the cruelty of society

The story begins with the emotional tale of Manas’s birth, which shakes readers to the core. About 20 years ago, a poor laborer mother, ‘Janaki’, gave birth to this unique child at a construction site near Taxila. Seeing this child with four hands reveals the real face of society. While, on one hand, people call him ‘Satan’ and throw stones at him, on the other hand, some people start finding opportunities in his unusual structure.

The most painful part of the story is where a hypocritical criminal like ‘Baba Darunath’ declares this innocent child to be the incarnation of ‘Bal Bhairav’. This directly attacks the superstition prevalent in Indian society. The innocent Manas is kept in an intoxicated state; he is given cigarettes and alcohol so that the devotees consider him ‘miraculous’ and offer him offerings. His own mother seems helpless while trying to save him. This part shows how innocence is crushed in the name of religion and faith.

The brilliant combination of science and spirituality: Professor Diwakar and the mystery of cosmic energy

Kotwal’s story is not just a story of revenge for an orphaned child, but also adds a very interesting aspect of modern science. When Manas is thrown into a deep ditch, assuming he is dead, he is saved by Professor Diwakar. Professor Diwakar is a scientist who has been associated with DRDO and is conducting research on the cosmic energy of the ‘Orion Belt’. It is from here that the story takes a brilliant sci-fi turn.

Diwakar not only heals Manas’ body, but also gives amazing strength to his four hands through modern chips and ‘Operation Pashupashastra’. It is extremely exciting to see how legendary weapons like the trident and the mace have been transformed into modern weapons with the help of cosmic energy. This scientific aspect gives the story a strong foundation and transforms Manas into a powerful ‘superhuman’.

From College Life to Bloody Streets: The Struggle of Manas and His Masked Identity

Professor Diwakar not only makes Manas a warrior, but also tries to make him an educated and civilized person. Manas’ admission in ‘Narayan College of Engineering’ brings a new twist in the story. Here he lives hiding his true identity. Keeping two extra hands tied under his shirt clearly shows the ongoing struggle inside him. College ragging, facing bullies like Jackie, and the attraction that arises in his heart for a girl like Mansi brings out his human side.

But as soon as injustice happens somewhere, the ‘Kotwal’ within him awakens. The attack in the ‘acid bar’ and the explosion in the ‘meta awakening’ party prove that no matter how hard Manas tries, he cannot escape his fate. His four-handed avatar comes to light only when the lives of innocent people are in danger. This double life puts him in the ranks of classic superheroes like Batman or Spider-Man, but his Indian atmosphere makes him feel more connected and real than them.

Empire of Hypocritical Masters and Underworld of Super City

The story depicts ‘Guru Avtari’ and his entire network of disciples as villains. Guru Avtari is not just a fake Baba, but he is in collusion with the city’s biggest mafia ‘Mr A’ and ‘Thakur Narendra Singh’. This alliance shows the dirty combination of politics, crime, and fake spirituality, which has become a bitter truth of today’s times. The aim of these villains is not just to earn money, but they want to achieve the strength of the Orion Belt that Professor Diwakar has.

Guru Avtari’s kidnapping of innocent children and selling them as ‘miracle children’ shows a very heinous crime. Kotwal’s fight is with these wolves, who are hiding as protectors in society. The cruelty of these villains makes Kotwal’s anger feel more justified.

Visual magic of Team Joker: Dildeep Singh’s pictures fill the story with life

The success of any comic depends on its art, and Kotwal seems to be at the forefront in this matter. The painting of Dildeep Singh is very spectacular and lively. The expressions seen on the faces of the characters, especially the pain of Manas and the fierce form of Kotwal, have been shown very effectively. Making action scenes of a four-handed warrior is not an easy task, but Team Joker has presented it in a very simple and powerful manner. Every panel gives a filmy experience.

The use of colors, especially blue and black in night scenes and colors like flashing lightning for cosmic energy, draws the reader inside the story. Jagdish Kumar’s inking and Parveen Singh’s coloring have taken this comic to the level of international comics like Marvel Comics and DC Comics.

Kotwal of Justice: ‘If you want to live, you have to live within the rules’

Kotwal’s famous dialogue, ‘Zinda rehna hai to kaide mein rehna hai,’ clearly explains his entire character. He is not a hero who catches criminals and just hands them over to the police; he himself becomes judge, jury, and executioner. There is a kind of cruelty in his working style, which seems necessary for those criminals who have made society hell. He blows the heads of enemies with his chains and tears the chests of sinners with his trident.

This violent form of his has been created for mature readers, which shows that sometimes war and violence become necessary to bring peace. This form of Kotwal forces readers to wonder whether our legal system is really strong enough to punish these demons, or whether we really need such a ‘Kotwal’.

An Emotional War: The Fire of Revenge and the Mysterious End of Mother’s Search

In the middle of the whole story lies Manas’s unwavering love for his mother ‘Janaki’ and the pain of losing her. He feels his mother is dead, but the story ends on a cliffhanger that completely shocks readers. Manas’ arrival at a secret lab and seeing his mother there alive inside a life-support tank (stasis tank) elevates the story to its highest level of emotion.

This ending does not just leave a mystery, but also raises big questions for the upcoming arc. Has any experiment been done on his mother also? Are the same forces behind his mother’s condition who made Manas ‘Bal Bhairav’? This emotional connection elevates ‘Kotwal’ above just an action comic and creates a deep human story.

Conclusion: Why Kotwal Issue 1 is a must-read for every Indian comic lover

The writings of Sanjay Gupta and Vivek Mohan have given such depth to ‘Kotwal’, which has been rarely seen in Indian comics in the last several years. This story reminds us how many ‘minds’ there are in our society even today, who become victims of jokes and exploitation because of their physical or mental identity. ‘Kotwal’ comes forward as the voice of all those oppressed people.

This technically brilliant, art-rich, and story-exciting comic emerges as a symbol of the new era of the Indian comics industry. If you are a fan of superhero stories and want to read something that is dark, powerful, and full of emotions, then “Kotwal” should be your first choice. This is such a great offering from Alpha Comics, which will be remembered as a ‘cult classic’ in the times to come. This new face of justice, ‘Kotwal’, is definitely going to shine like a new pole star in the world of Indian comics.
