Ajgar – The Great: A Superhero in Manoj Comics

Ajgar, featured in Manoj Comics, is a unique superhero. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that among all superheroes, Ajgar has the longest lifespan. The comic series featuring Ajgar initially included characters like Mahabali Shera and Kala Pret. In the ‘Ajgar the Great’ comics, Ajgar is portrayed as a negative character or perhaps a character compelled by circumstances. In this narrative, Ajgar is a servant of a mystical crown, and whoever wears it must obey his commands, leading to destructive actions.

Ajgar’s story begins a thousand years ago when his original name was Tripund. Vikraal, the king of the serpent kingdom and Ajgar’s stepbrother, desired to make Ajgar his heir. However, Tripund despised Vikraal. One day, seizing an opportunity, Tripund launched a deadly attack on Vikraal, but the kingdom’s spiritual leader, Jaydron, intervened and not only protected Tripund but also cursed him. The curse bound Tripund to eternal servitude of the crown. He was thrown on Earth, where a king found him and, upon wearing the crown, gained control over Ajgar. The cycle continued until Mahabali Shera freed Ajgar from this enslavement.

Ajgar and Mahabali Shera teamed up for special editions in various comics. Some editions even introduced Trikaldev. These efforts aimed to maintain readers’ interest and attention, especially since Nagraj and Tausi had already captured readers’ fascination. Writers and editors sought to attract readers in this direction.

Ajgar’s creator, Papinder Juneja, and illustrators Dilip Kadam and Uma Kande contributed to bringing this character to life. In terms of power, Ajgar is a shape-shifting serpent, allowing him to assume any form. He always utilizes this power judiciously, especially against otherworldly threats like the magical Rakshas.
