The wait of fans of ‘The Witcher’ is finally over! The fourth season of this Netflix hit series is now coming on a confirmed date. In the recently released teaser trailer and set pictures, Liam Hemsworth is seen in action.
Netflix has officially announced that The Witcher season 4 will be released on October 30, 2025. This time, Liam Hemsworth is playing the role of Geralt in place of Henry Cavill. In the teaser, he says — “With these words, your mortal body will meet my destiny in blazing hell!” A fearsome spirit (Wraith) then attacks him and drags him into the forest. But Geralt immediately gets up and finishes it off with the sword. At last, he removes the heart of that soul, and it turns into dust. After this, the logo of The Witcher appears on the screen.
Season 4 story and star cast: new companions, old faces, and preparations for the last journey
In the teaser, Hemsworth’s Geralt looks very similar to Cavill’s Geralt, and he is seen fighting with a ghost-like spirit. The story of the season is like this:
“After the events of Season 3, which shook the entire continent, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri have to part ways because of the unrest and countless enemies. Their paths and motives diverge, but in this journey they find new companions who want to walk with them. If they embrace this new family, maybe they’ll have a chance to come together again forever.”
In addition to Hemsworth, the cast also stars Anya Chalotra (Yennefer), Freya Allan (Ciri), Joey Batey (Jaskier), and Laurence Fishburne (Regis). Sharlto Copley has become the dangerous bounty hunter Leo Bonhart this time. Old faces like Graham McTavish (Dijkstra), Eamon Farren (Cahir), and Anna Shafer (Triss Merigold) are also returning.
It was already reported that season 4 would be the second-to-last season of The Witcher. That is, the series will end after season 5. Both seasons are being shot together and will feature stories from three books: Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake.
Series creator and showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said — “This is a two-season trip for our family, so they can finally meet and be together forever.”
Liam Hemsworth: Ready to handle Geralt’s swords, even the cast is praising!
When Liam Hemsworth’s new Geralt was first announced, he said —
“Being a Witcher fan, it’s a great pleasure for me to be getting the chance to play Geralt of Rivia.”
He further said —
“Henry Cavill has been a brilliant Geralt. I am proud that he is now handing over the reins to me and giving me the opportunity to raise the swords of the White Wolf in the next chapter of his adventures. Henry, I have been your fan for years and the way you have lived this character has inspired me a lot. I know I have a huge responsibility to take on, but frankly I’m extremely excited to be a part of this world of The Witcher.”
Meanwhile, the rest of the cast is also praising Hemsworth. When season 3 was released, Joey Batey explained in an interview how hard Liam is working for the role.
He said — “They’re spending the time before the shooting training, reading books, and getting themselves fully into this role. No one can ask for more than to work hard for this role with all their heart, and Liam is doing exactly that. We’re all so excited.”
Vision of books vs show: why Cavill left The Witcher?
Henry Cavill had a wonderful time as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher. He lived this character to the fullest. Geralt’s calm and deep nature was further enhanced by his hard work. Many times, he got some scenes rewritten so that the real form of the character was more clearly visible.
But there was a lot of talk about the reason for his departure behind the scenes. Officially, he called it a “torch handover,” but there were reports of differences of opinion on how close the show should stay to the books and games. Some older writers also said that the books were not always taken seriously. Cavill himself had also hinted that he knew when it was right to step down from a role.
Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has been focused on adapting Sapkowski’s books correctly since the beginning. The big contract that Netflix signed with her in 2021 made it clear that the company trusts her vision. Her new project Sirens of the Deep also turned out quite well.
That’s why when Cavill left, Hissrich again took charge of season 4. It’s not easy to imagine The Witcher without Cavill, but looking at Hemsworth’s Land of Bad performance, it seems that he can settle into both swordplay and action. Now, time will tell how well he is able to play Geralt. The good news is that Laurence Fishburne will appear as Regis this time, and his look is really great.
