In the mid-90s, King Comics introduced a superhero in the form of ‘Vega’ whose powers were based not on witchcraft but solely on science and technology. This comic, ‘Vega Hi Vega’, written by Tikaram Sippy and illustrated by Drona Features, is the first episode of this series. This story takes readers on a journey where emotions and adventure go hand in hand. Made under the guidance of editor Vivek Mohan, this comic seems quite different—more serious and thought-provoking—than other comics of its era.

Beginning of the plot: Pain emanating from the pages of the diary

The story begins with Professor Gosha’s diary. In an entry dated 25 May 1994, the professor dreams of a society where there is no such thing as crime. He wants such power to be developed within a person that will make him invincible in every situation. But this great discovery has a huge cost. It requires a human test subject, and it carries a full 100 percent risk to life.

This is where the story takes an emotional turn. The professor’s middle sibling, Megha, is in the last stage of blood cancer. The doctor clearly states that treatment is no longer possible and that Megha has only seven days left. Megha gives herself to this dangerous experiment to fulfill her brother’s dream and to link her death to a cause. This sacrifice forms the foundation of the entire story.

First Vega and the orgy of tragedy

Professor Gosha’s experiment succeeds and Megha gets ‘Vega Power’. Now she can fly in the air and achieve extraordinary speed. Everything seems right, but fate has something else in store. Megha suffers a severe cancer attack during the flight. She loses balance, crashes into a high-rise building, and falls down.

Megha dies before reaching the ground. This scene shakes the reader to the core, as the hero’s death here is not caused by a villain, but by her own physical weakness. The situation becomes such that Professor Gosha is accused of murdering his own sibling and is sentenced to death.

The seeking of justice and the mysterious letter

The professor’s younger brother, who later becomes Vega, does everything he can to save his elder brother. He learns that before dying, Megha had written a letter in which she clearly stated that she had participated in this experiment of her own free will. This letter becomes the biggest proof of the professor’s innocence.

At this juncture, the villain ‘Nonem’ (No-Name) enters the story. He steals the letter so that the professor can be hanged and so that he can obtain all the scientific secrets related to the laboratory. From here, the story becomes a tremendous suspense thriller. The hero running against time and trying to save his brother’s life makes the readers’ heartbeats faster.

Confluence of action and espionage

The middle part of the comic is full of intense action. The protagonist pursues criminals on a skateboard, which was a fairly new and modern concept for that time. Car-chase scenes and fights with goons on the roof of a moving car clearly showcase Drona Features’ excellent drawing skills.

In one particular scene, the hero traps the villain in a concrete mixer and threatens to turn him into a cement brick to make him reveal the truth. In this manner, he retrieves the letter. This scene shows not only the strength but also the intelligence of the hero and his strong resolve.

Exciting climax on the gallows

The story reaches its climax when Professor Gosha is taken to be hanged. At the last moment, the hero breaks through the wall of the hanging house, wreaking havoc on his bike. He arrives at the exact moment when the executioner is about to draw the noose and pulls his brother from the jaws of death.

This scene is reminiscent of classic climax moments from Indian films. Megha’s letter is presented, and Professor Gosha is acquitted with respect. But this is not where the story ends; rather, this is where the real beginning of a new superhero takes shape.

Rise of new ‘Vega’: scientific process

Professor Gosha is completely devastated by Megha’s death and decides to stop his research. But his younger brother explains to him that Megha’s sacrifice should not go in vain. He decides to become a part of the experiment himself.

This section is no less than a treat for science-fiction lovers. The author explains ‘Vega Power’ in great detail. Through experiments, electromagnetic waves are transmitted to every pore of the body, creating an anti-gravity-like condition. The result is that the hero can float in the air in a state of zero gravity. He can also create small cyclones by controlling air pressure through his palms and toes. Along with this, his hearing ability increases so much that he can detect sounds from miles away.

The depiction of this entire scientific process is so convincing that the reader feels it might actually be possible.

Analysis of costume and powers

After the experiment, the hero is given a special blue costume. Professor Gosha explains to him in clear terms that he should not consider himself a ‘Superman’, because his powers also have limits. He cannot fly above a fixed altitude of about 200 meters. His powers may weaken in extreme cold. His ability to fly completely depends on his mental balance and body posture.

These limitations make Vega a superhero who resembles a strong but ordinary human—someone who is not invincible in all circumstances but fights despite his weaknesses.

Art and illustration

The artwork by Drona Features is truly worthy of praise. The soul and warmth that defined 90s hand-drawn art are clearly visible in this comic. Unlike today’s digital glitter, this style of illustration carries a sense of authenticity and emotional connection.

Special attention is evident in the faces and expressions of the characters. Professor Gosha’s face reflects both deep sorrow and the obsessive restlessness of a scientist, while the hero’s eyes clearly show the fire of seeking justice for his sibling. These emotions make the story not just worth reading, but worth feeling.

The use of colors is also very thoughtful. Dark and heavy tones dominate the tragic portions of the story, creating a serious atmosphere, while bright colors like blue and red bring energy to the panels when Vega appears in full force. Additionally, the diary-based narrative structure gives the story a personal and emotional touch, as if the reader is directly reading the professor’s thoughts.

Review findings

‘Vega Hi Vega’ is not just a superhero story, but a pain-filled yet hopeful tale of a family breaking apart, disintegrating, and reconnecting. It also teaches that science is not magic, but a double-edged sword—capable of saving lives in the right hands and destroying everything in the wrong circumstances.

The greatest strength of this comic lies in its emotional storytelling. The scientific logic behind the powers sets it apart from other comics of its time. The pacing never slackens, and every scene maintains curiosity about what comes next. The hero’s limitations make him more human and allow readers to connect with him easily.

As for weaknesses, the villain ‘Nonem’ could have been given more depth. His motivations and background could have been explored further. The hanging-house scene appears somewhat filmy and dramatic, though considering the storytelling style of that era, it does not feel overly disturbing.

Last word

Overall, ‘Vega’ is a very important and proud chapter in the history of Vega King Comics. It is essential reading for anyone who wants to experience the true spirit of the golden age of Indian comics. This comic presents a hero who flies through the air and speaks to the winds, yet whose heart beats for his family and loved ones.

The next episode, ‘Gel Grinder’, ends with a subtle hint that prepares readers for a long, emotional, and exciting journey ahead.
