“Bauna Vaman” is a testament to the vision of the golden era of Raj Comics, not just a comic, which showed Indian superheroes like Super Commando Dhruv grappling with the dark aspects of science, technology, and cutting-edge crime. This special issue (No. 195, value ₹20.00), written by Jolly Sinha and illustrated by Anupam Sinha, was a great attraction for the readers of that time, as the story focused on the tricks and technological innovations of intelligence, not just physical force.

The name of the comic is the main villain.

At the very beginning of the story, he is counted among the “Mahashaitans” and the most “cunning villains” in the world. This makes it clear that Dhruv is not facing any ordinary criminal, but a mastermind who may be small in stature but is a dangerous challenge for Dhruv because of his tremendous intelligence and command over the world of organized crime. These comics teach that trouble is never judged by its size but by its true strength. Even small-looking things can sometimes prove fatal.

The real theme of the story is the breaking and misuse of high-tech security systems. This is what makes this comic different from other Hindi comics, where most of the stories were limited to robbery or espionage. “ Bauna Vaman “ is part of Dhruv’s era when his enemies were not only powerful but also masters of technology, cybercrime, and electronic warfare. For this reason, this comic was considered very special and forward-thinking in its time.

Escape from Narka Prison: A breach of impenetrable security

The beginning of “Bauna Vaman” sounds like a Hollywood thriller. The foundation of the story lies in the scene of an escape from a prison that is considered the safest in the world. This is Narka Jail, which is situated on an island in the sea at some distance from Rajnagar. Its specialty is that it has such advanced electronic security that it does not require many guards. It is almost impossible for a prisoner to escape from here or for an outsider to enter inside. For this reason, dangerous criminals like Dwarf Vaman, Dhvudraj, and Chumba were kept imprisoned here.

But this strong security structure collapses when a mysterious personality — Tronica — climbs the walls like a lizard and enters the prison. Tronica is in a special steel-armored suit, in which various types of electronic gadgets have been fitted. Its most special feature is that it is not caught even when standing directly in front of CCTV cameras. His armor disrupts the electromagnetic waves emitted by the cameras, due to which his image is not clearly visible on the monitor.

Taking advantage of this technology, Tronica shuts down the laser barricades, breaks the prison’s electronic code as easily as a child breaks a piggy bank, and then melts the steel door of Dwarf Vaman’s cell with his melting beam. After this, both of them escape through a hail of bullets and leave via an underground tunnel in a pre-prepared mini submarine, heading toward Rajnagar by sea. This entire scene is not just an example of an escape, but a wonderful display of technology and brain trickery. It shows that now criminals are not only armed with guns or sticks but are also equipped with advanced scientific weapons.

Dangerous Deal: The Challenge of the Microchip and Pole
Traveling in a submarine, Dwarf Vaman asks Tronica why he rescued him. Then Tronica reveals his true motive — he wants to steal the new microchip from Yukaharo Electronics, an electronics company in Japan. Tronica, who considers himself an expert in electronics, believes that the security of this company is beyond his control. For this reason, he needed a clever mastermind like Dwarf Vaman.

Dwarf Vaman, who always follows the policy of “money for work,” immediately states his price — ten crore rupees. Tronica hands him five crore rupees as an advance right there.

But Dwarf Vaman immediately points out a big problem — Super Commando Dhruv. Because as long as Dhruv is in Rajnagar, the success of this mission is almost impossible. On this, Tronica tells his plan that he will drag Dhruv away from Rajnagar when the real theft takes place. The deal gives rise to the main conflict of the story. Dwarf Vaman’s vicious demands and Tronica’s cunning plan combine to make the story a bombastic crime thriller.

Dhruv’s Investigation and Shweta’s Introduction
Here, Dhruv and the Police Commissioner (who is Shweta’s father) get upset after hearing the news of Vaman’s escape from Narka Jail. They directly reach the office of Mr. Haraki, Managing Director of Yukaharo Electronics, because the electronic security system of Narka Jail was created by this company.

Dhruv shows his sharp mind and asks Mr. Haraki if he suspects anyone. Haraki replies that this could probably be the work of a jail official because only those people knew about the security system. But Dhruv immediately interrupts him and says that the person who rescued Vaman was in a special steel suit. No jail official can bring such a suit, but yes, it can definitely be made in a big tech company like Yukaharo Electronics. This scene clearly shows that Dhruv is not only strong, but his eyes are amazingly sharp, and his mind is very logical.

Meanwhile, it comes to light that the Commissioner’s daughter Shweta is also doing summer training in the same company. She has made a big contribution to the team of scientists there in developing the new microchip. Everyone is surprised to see the power of this chip. If it is installed in a robotic toy, then a person can control it just by thinking. That means this is not a trivial thing, but a top-secret project whose value cannot be measured in money.

Shweta’s significant contribution to the project, as well as her being the Commissioner’s daughter, makes her an easy and dangerous target for the tricks of Tronica and Dwarf Vaman.

The beginning of the conflict: traps and hostages

On the first page, Dhruv is shown fighting ninjas, while the Bauna Vaman, holding a remote control, threatens that if Dhruv stops even for a second, his friend will jump down from the building, because he is currently dancing at the behest of Vaman’s remote control. This makes it clear that Tronica took Shweta, and not anyone else, hostage to keep Dhruv away from Rajnagar and controlled her using the technology of that microchip.

This development takes the conflict of the story to a personal and emotional level. Dhruv not only has to fight a technical criminal but also has to save the life of his friend (possibly Shweta), whose life is in danger because of the chip. The rest of the comic focuses on this technological threat, Dhruv’s quick action, and his decisive confrontation with the Bauna Vaman and Tronica.

In-depth characterization of characters (Character Studio)

Super Commando Dhruv (Super Commando Dhruv)
Dhruv demonstrates his two greatest strengths in this story: wit and quick action. He is not a hero with any supernatural powers but depends on his sharp thinking, logical ability, and gadgets. In the event of the breach of the security system of Narka Prison, where the commissioner suspects an ordinary officer, Dhruv immediately understands that the steel suit the criminal has used can only be made in a tech hub like Yukaharo Electronics. He is the selfless protector of Rajnagar, and that is why Tronica also has to believe that his work cannot be successful under Dhruv. This logical and investigative instinct of Dhruv makes him the perfect hero for this technical thriller.

Bauna Vaman (Bauna Vaman)
Bauna Vaman is one of the most complex and realistic villains of Hindi comics. His physical deficiency (dwarfism) is made up for by his technical skills and mental cruelty. His characterization is based directly on his principle: “money for work.” He takes no one’s favor and quickly turns relationships into business transactions by promising to get Tronica released from prison in the future in exchange for his “favors.” This trait makes him a cunning and professional criminal, whose loyalty rests only on profits.

Tronica (Tronica)
Tronica is a mysterious ‘techno-crime’ expert, whose source of inspiration is only money. He goes to any extent to complete his work, even creating a dangerous and complex plan to rescue Bauna Vaman from an impenetrable place like Narka Jail. His steel suit (Jirah Bakhtar) and ability to jam electronic signals make him a formidable opponent, posing a distinctly technical challenge to Dhruv. He teams up with Bauna Vaman to create a dangerous jugalbandi, where one is the mastermind and the other is the technical expert.

Shweta (Shweta)
Shweta is the daughter of the commissioner as well as established as a genius scientist. She makes a significant contribution to the creation of the Microchip Project, and it is this talent that brings her to the heart of the story, where she falls into a web of villains. Her character highlights the great danger that knowledge and technology, if lacking security, can cause. Her being a hostage provides human and emotional depth to the story.

Art and Presentation: Anupam Sinha’s Painting Magic

The credit for painting this comic goes to Anupam Sinha, whose name is counted among the most prestigious artists of Raj Comics, and here too his contribution gives a different identity to this thriller. The detail with which he has illustrated the high-tech structure of Narka Prison, Tronica’s intricate steel suit, and microchip-controlled robotic toys shows the strong entry of sci-fi elements into Indian comics of that period. From the initial confrontation of Dhruv and the ninjas (p. 3) to Tronica cutting the door of Vaman’s cell with a melting beam—action and dynamics are brilliantly presented in the scenes. The physical appearance of the characters is also very accurate: the well-built body of Dhruv, the short stature and brutal facial expressions of Vaman, and the robotic armor of Tronica—all of these make the characters instantly recognizable. At the same time, Vitthal Kamble’s inking and Sunil Pandey’s coloring work give more depth to this visual treat, especially in the scenes of electronic devices collapsing during the jailbreak, where the depiction of energy and waves adds more life to the technical atmosphere of the story.

Conclusions and final thoughts: a confluence of science, ethics, and adventure

“Bauna Vaman” is a comic that was well ahead of its time. It is not just a superhero story but depicts the complex relationship between science, morality, and crime. This story is a commentary on the weaknesses of modern security systems: the highly technical security of the Narka Prison was demolished by a single gadget with even more advanced technology from Tronica. This reinforces the idea that the security of any system is only as strong as the knowledge of its creator. Dhruv’s telling the commissioner that the criminal’s suit may have been made inside the company confirms that the biggest security challenge often comes from internal leaks or abuses.

The character of Bauna Vaman blurs the line between business ethics and crime, while Tronica represents the modern-era “hired gun,” whose loyalty is only for money. Overall, “Bauna Vaman” is one of the best specials of Super Commando Dhruv. It offers a perfect mix of technical thrillers, fast-paced storylines, and exquisite characterizations. This 64-page comic is just as relevant and exciting today, not only for Dhruv’s fans but also for lovers of good crime fiction.
