When ‘Nagaprastha’ Became an Arena of Conspiracies: What Is the Story?

This fourth volume of ‘Maha Nagayana’, ‘Bali Parv’, marks a turning point in the world of Indian superhero comics, where politics, diplomacy, family conspiracies, and the events of a major world war collide.

In the earlier parts (‘Avataran Parva‘, ‘Rakta Parva‘, and ‘Sandhi Parva‘), Kaliwan, the lord of the Black Powers, had disturbed the balance of power. Now, ‘Bali Parv’ begins with the invitation to establish and inaugurate a new illusory city named Nagaprastha.

The Illusory City Rose from the Ashes of Khandavaprastha

After being deposed by Mahatma Kaldoot, Visarpi and Vishank, with the help of architectural craftsmen, build the ultra-modern and illusory city of ‘Nagaprastha’ in place of Khandavaprastha. Vishank takes a unique step to make this new empire recognized throughout the world. Through his digital projection (hologram), he sends invitations to the inauguration of Nagaprastha and the coronation of Nagraj to all the rulers, superheroes, and different worlds.

This invitation reaches many regions of the Earth, as well as Robo City (Nakshatra), the kingdom of Nirnagas, Lanka, the fierce Bhairava, the tyrant of the Amatta Empire, and even the secret ‘Golden City’ of the gods.

Doga’s Maha-Return: The Force of 1000 Whales!

On the other hand, Hell-killing Nagraj and Collie believe that they have killed Amatt’s biggest enemy, ‘Doga’, and thrown him into the sea. On Ashtasarpi’s advice, they strengthen their friendship with Amatta’s dictator, Bhageen Bhairav, by presenting him with the video footage of Doga’s death as a gift.

But the biggest twist in the story comes when Emperor Mahavyal of Nirnagas presents a special gift in Nagaprastha—and that gift is none other than the living Doga.

In fact, the mysterious mixture of sulfur from the sea and the poison of the Nirnagas not only brings Doga back to life but also fills his body with immense strength equivalent to that of 1000 whales.

Nagraj vs. Wolf: A Great Battle with Their Own Ally

Guests travelling towards Nagaprastha are suddenly attacked by robo-wolves and kidney trees. When Nagraj arrives to assess the situation, he encounters Wolf. Wolf has lost his senses, and his mind is under the control of an extremely powerful Mental Barrier.

A fierce battle ensues between Nagraj and the mighty Wolf. At the most critical moment of the battle, Bhatiki and Baba Gorakhnath intervene. Bhatiki explains that Wolf’s memories could cause the destruction of the entire universe and Wulfano, so controlling his mind was necessary.

Chaucer’s Wager and One Year of Exile!

In the last part of the story, Mahamatya and Visarpi play a new trick on the secret instructions of Kaliwan. To gain control over Nagaprastha, Nagraj is challenged to a game of Chaucer (Panse), just like the game in the Mahabharata. Nagraj accepts this challenge to protect his self-respect and principles.

The story ends with a very exciting climax, where one year of exile is decided for the loser. This lays the foundation for the ‘Unknown Festival’ that lies ahead.

Artwork and Visuals: Anupam Sinha’s Masterstroke

Anupam Sinha is a veteran artist in the Indian comics world, and his work in ‘Bali Parv’ proves it completely.

• Panel Designing and Layout: The texture of every page keeps readers engaged. A wonderful combination of mythological and modern art can be seen throughout.

• The Grandeur of Nagaprastha: The visuals of the illusory city of Nagaprastha, where the ground appears like water and the illusion continues even after climbing 500 steps, look extremely spectacular.

• Action Scenes: The scenes of Nagraj vs. Bhediya and the fierce battle between Bhairav and Narach are full of excitement and speed.

• Coloring: Jagat Singh’s coloring and Mohan Prabhu’s cover art perfectly strengthen the dark and epic atmosphere of the story.

Character Game: Who Outshines Whom?

‘Bali Parv’ is not limited to just fighting. The characters’ thinking, mental struggles, and political moves also play an important role.

  1. Nagraj (Nagraj): Idealistic, principled, and self-respecting. When questions arise about his ability and luck, he accepts Chaucer’s wager.
  2. Hell-killing Nagraj (Naraknashak Nagraj): This Nagraj from the second dimension believes in practical politics and establishing his dominance. This is what makes him different from and more interesting than the original Nagraj.
  3. Kaliwan (Kalivan): A very vicious and dangerous villain who orchestrates every move from behind the scenes. His presence creates a constant sense of threat throughout the story.
  4. Doga (Doga): Returns with the strength of 1000 whales despite losing his memory, making it the biggest surprise for fans.

Dialogue: The use of classical and Sanskritized Hindi in the dialogues is quite impressive. Mythological dialogues like “Idam Yudham Mahat Bhavishyati, Na Bhuto Na Bhavishyati” give an epic feel to the story.

Real Criterion: What Worked Like Magic and Where Did It Lose Momentum?

Strong Side

• A Brilliant Fusion of the Mythological and Modern Worlds: Mahabharata’s ‘Dyut Parva’ and ‘Rajsuya Yagya’ have been brilliantly connected with the modern multiverse and superhero world.

• Suspense and Thrill: The mystery of Takshak Nagar’s Triphana gems, Drona’s conspiracy, and Kaliwan’s hidden tactics keep readers curious until the end.

• Huge Multiverse Crossover: Almost all the major Raj Comics characters (Nagraj, Dhruv, Doga, Bhediya, Robo, Shweta, and Nakshatra) are well combined in a single story.

Weak Side

• Complicated Story: If a reader hasn’t read the earlier comics (‘Avataran Parva’, ‘Rakta Parva’, and ‘Sandhi Parva’), it may be a little difficult to understand so many dimensions, timelines, and characters at once.

• Pacing: The story opens several fronts simultaneously, such as Takshak Nagar, Nagaprastha, Robo City, and Swarna Nagari, so some events do not get enough time.

Should You Read This?

‘Maha Nagayana: Bali Parva’ is a historic special issue from Raj Comics that takes the Indian superhero genre to a new and more mature level. Anupam Sinha’s storytelling style and Manoj Gupta’s editing make this comic worth collecting. This comic will be enjoyed not only by action lovers but also by readers who enjoy stories of political conspiracies and diplomacy.

Conclusion: If you are an old fan of Raj Comics or have been reading the ‘Maha Nagayana’ series from the beginning, then ‘Bali Parv’ is a masterpiece worthy of being included in your comic collection.
