Raj Comics’ ‘Nagayan’ series is a major achievement in the Indian comics world, which is not called the ‘Ramayana of Indian superheroes’ for nothing. Featuring Sanjay Gupta’s vision and Anupam Sinha’s writing and illustrations, the series blends the great structure of the Ramayana with futuristic science fiction, dark fantasy, and tremendous superhero action in a way that leaves the reader stunned. After the resounding success of ‘Selection’, ‘Eclipse’, ‘Abduction’, ‘Refuge’, ‘Combustion’, and ‘Battle Scandal’, and their deep story, now its seventh and most decisive part, ‘Summer Scandal’, comes to the fore.

‘Summer’ means war, and this incident truly shows the last great war where the future of all humanity is at stake. This 76-page special is not limited to just fighting, but is the result of all the mysteries, sacrifices, and tricks that were slowly being prepared in the previous six parts. This review tries to understand every small and big aspect of this work.

Detailed outline of the plot: preparations for a decisive battle

The story of ‘Summer Scandal’ picks up pace from where ‘Battle Scandal’ ended. The protector of the universe, Nagraj, and Super Commando Dhruv have now reached the stronghold of Krurpasha, ‘Alandhya’. This battle no longer happens just between two superheroes and a villain, but becomes the final confrontation between the White Powers (Light) and the Black Powers (Darkness).

Chapter 1: Bridge Bonds (The Bridge)

The story begins with Alandhya entering a dangerous dimension. Just as Rama built a bridge over the sea to reach Lanka, similarly here Nagraj and Dhruv need a different kind of bridge, made of science and magic, to cross the strong protective walls of Alandhya. Dhruv shows his amazing understanding and uses dry ice, i.e., solid carbon dioxide, and eliminates the clouds that were giving strength to the black powers. This scene clearly shows that Dhruv’s real strength is not his muscles, but his brain.

Chapter 2: Role and the Crisis of Time-Surma

Krurpasha has deployed terrifying black power monsters like ‘Kal-Surm’ for his protection. These demons drink even laser energy, and common weapons do not harm them. In such a situation, Dhruv’s strategy comes in handy. He traps these giants with a special diffuse substance called ‘Boomer Foam’, causing them to explode under the pressure of their own energy. This part becomes a great example of technique and finesse.

Chapter 3: Ambush, Retaliation, and Family Secrets

This chapter is full of emotions. Super Commando Dhruv’s family—Natasha and his son Rishi—are in the captivity of Master Robo. Here, a big revelation comes that Dhruv’s sister Shweta, whom everyone believed to be dead, is actually alive as a ‘mummy’. Robo had turned her into a slave like a machine. The dialogue between Dhruv and Natasha, and Natasha finding out the truth that ‘Jalj’ is actually her own son whom Robo changed, creates a tremendous emotional storm in the story.

Chapter 4: Another Nagraj and the Revolt of the Yetis

Nagraj is fighting the army of Yetis inside Alandhya. Here, the ‘Black Nagraj’ form of Nagraj and his real personality come face to face. Visarpi, who is in the captivity of the cruel Pasha, does not lose her self-respect. She repeatedly warns Krurpasha that Nagraj’s justice will one day burn him to ashes. Meanwhile, Yetiraj Jingalu returns, who supports Nagraj and makes the Yeti army face the truth.

Chapter 5: Dialogue of Aghaz and Mahakalchhidra

In the last chapter, a war of ideas is shown between Mahakalchhidra, i.e., the lord of the black powers, and Baba Gorakhnath. This fight is not just about the body, but about thought and philosophy. While Mahakalchhidra talks about the power of destruction and darkness, Gorakhnath expresses confidence in the balance of creation and the victory of light. Meanwhile, Bharathi, who is Nagraj’s first wife, takes the ‘Sakar-Shape’ form and sacrifices everything for Nagraj. This moment becomes the saddest and most glorious moment of this incident.

In-depth psychological analysis of the characters

Nagraj: The difficult path of dignity

‘Summer Scandal’ shows Nagraj as a hero who is invincible in terms of strength, but broken inside. Visarpi’s kidnapping and Bharathi’s sacrifice bring him to a point where he comes very close to becoming ‘Black Nagraj’. His anger is his strength, but that same anger can also become the reason for his downfall. Anupam Sinha has very effectively depicted the pain and determination hidden in Nagraj’s eyes.

Super Commando Dhruv: The power of the mind

Dhruv is Hanuman and Vibhishana combined throughout this entire series. He makes plans, takes the help of science, and finds a way out with his wisdom when everyone gives up hope. Even after seeing the deception of his wife Natasha and the condition of his sister Shweta, he does not deviate from his goal. Dhruv proves that even without any superpower, humans can challenge gods.

Brutal Pasha and Nagina: The real face of evil

Nagpasha is no longer just a criminal, but wants to turn himself into a Dark God. His ego has increased so much that he starts challenging even his guru, Kaal-Chhidra. Nagina appears here as a cunning conspirator who keeps turning the game again and again. The ongoing struggle within him between affection for poison and the hunger for power makes the story more interesting.

Bharti: The story of silent sacrifice

Bharti’s character was the most ignored in this series, but she is also the most important. She knows that Nagraj’s heart is with Visarpi, yet she stakes her life to protect him. Her ‘corporeal-shape’ transformation and then her end touch the readers’ hearts deeply.

Drawing and visual language (Visual Storytelling)

The living proof of why Anupam Sinha is called the uncrowned king of Indian comics is ‘Summer Scandal’. The tall buildings of Alandhya, the flying crafts, and the grand battles of thousands of Yeti and Naga warriors are shown so closely that each panel can be watched for hours. In emotional close-ups—when Dhruv recognizes his sister or when Nagraj screams at Bharti’s sacrifice—the lines on their faces and the moisture in their eyes reach straight to the reader’s heart. The use of dark colors, deep shadows, and smoky shapes to portray black powers fills the atmosphere with fear and mystery. Through dynamic paneling, the action and fast movement of characters bursting out of frames in fight scenes become truly worth watching.

Technique vs Spirituality

The biggest feature of ‘Nagayan’ is that it creates a strong bridge between ‘mantra’ and ‘yantra’. It includes scientific weapons such as ‘compression arrow’, ‘thermal detector’, ‘boomer foam’, and ‘sniffer drone’, which clearly show that Dhruv’s science is no less powerful than any superhuman force. On the other hand, the invocation of Divyastras, the divine powers of Baba Gorakhnath, and the mysterious magic of ‘Sakar-Sharab’ bring out the magical and spiritual side of Indian mythology. The author conveys very simply and effectively that while science stops at its limits, faith and belief show the way.

Editing and presentation

Editor Sanjay Gupta, through the ‘Green Page’ (Green Page No. 280), speaks to readers in a very honest and straightforward manner. He openly admits that bringing out such a large and complex series like ‘Nagayan’ on time was more a matter of passion than a job. The promise of the final 128-page part, ‘Iti Kand’, was no less than a festival for readers at that time.

Along with this, advertisements of upcoming comics like ‘Prem Hiran’, ‘Paramatma’, and ‘Pratham Bhokal’ had truly taken the popularity of Raj Comics to its peak during that period.

Main points of review: Strong and weak sides

Strong sides (Strengths):

There is tremendous suspense in this comic, with a new twist emerging on almost every page. The revelation of major secrets, like Shweta being a mummy, surprises the reader. The scale of action is so vast and grand that it can be counted among the biggest battles in the history of Indian comics. At the same time, emotional depth is beautifully woven in, where superheroes are seen not only fighting, but also breaking, enduring pain, and making sacrifices. Most importantly, Anupam Sinha’s world-class art makes it comparable to international-level Marvel or DC Comics.

Weak side (Weaknesses):

The complexity of the story is somewhat high, due to which a reader who has not read the previous six parts may find it a little difficult to understand the characters and different dimensions. Moreover, the number of characters is so high that sometimes it becomes difficult to focus completely on the main story, especially the relationship between Nagraj and Visarpi.

Social and moral messages

‘Summer Scandal’ teaches that wars are not won by weapons alone, but by strong intentions. It also brings out the complexities of relationships—how a father figure like Robo uses even his own children for selfish motives, and how a true friend like Dhruv is willing to sacrifice everything for his friend. This comic symbolizes the same victory of justice, loyalty, and truth that forms the core message of the Ramayana.

Conclusion and rating

‘Nagayan: Summer Scandal’ is not just a comic book, but a symbol of the peak of Indian superhero storytelling. It reminds us of our mythological glory while also allowing us to imagine a modern and futuristic world. Sanjay Gupta, Anupam Sinha, and the entire Raj Comics team have together created a unique gem whose shine will never fade with time.

This is the most exciting and decisive part of the entire series. Visarpi’s imprisonment, Dhruv’s struggle, and Nagraj’s ‘Ran’ have now reached their final stage. The suspense left at the end of the comic—is Dhruv really dead, as indicated on the cover?—makes readers restless for the next and final part, ‘Iti Scandal’.

Final rating: 5/5
