The Failure of the Law and the Rise of a Protector

“The goddess of law may be blind, but Doga’s gun is always aimed at criminals.” These lines about Raj Comics’ most dreaded and realistic superhero, ‘Doga’, are absolutely perfect. In the 90s, when heroes like Nagraj and Tiranga spoke of idealism and patriotism, Doga wrote the rule of ‘blood for blood’ on the streets of Mumbai.

Today we are conducting a detailed review of Raj Comics’ shocking comic ‘Doga Ki Adalat’ (Doga Ki Adalat). Written by Tarun Kumar Wahi and conceptualized by Vivek Mohan, this story is not just an action comic but also a psychological thriller about the shortcomings of our justice system, the fears of influential people, and the betrayal hidden within a family. Let us step into this ‘court’ of Doga.

Do You Know How ‘Justice’ Happens When the Law Is Helpless?

The very first page of the story leaves a deep impact on the reader’s mind. In Justice Chaudhary’s court, where the law book should have been, Mumbai’s guardian Doga is sitting with an automatic gun. Behind him is the statue of the goddess of law, who is blindfolded. Doga’s dialogue is direct and sharp— “It is a sin to bring weapons to court, but now justice will not be written with a pen; it will be written with my gunshots.”

The scene shows the anger that a common man feels when criminals openly make fun of the law. After all, why did Doga have to enter the court and sit on the judge’s chair? There is a deep conspiracy hidden behind this.

Crime Scene: Murder of a Model and a Game of Influence

The story takes you to a high-profile party in Mumbai in a flashback. It is a Mumbai night, where black-market businesses flourish behind the glitter. The guest of the night is famous model Smita Arora. The party is filled with drunken revelry, but Smita refuses to drink. Just then, Chhotaiya, the brother of Mumbai’s notorious mafia don ‘Dandiya’, arrives.

Chhotaiya, under the influence of his power, misbehaves with Smita and tries to force her to drink alcohol. When Smita refuses, he shoots her in front of dozens of eyewitnesses at the beach party. Mumbai Police’s capable Inspector ‘Surya’ was present there, but Chhotaiya and Dandiya take advantage of the darkness and manage to escape.

This is where the real twist in the story comes. At the party, where dozens of people were present, no one is willing to testify. Mumbai’s dreaded mafia don Dandiya threatens to kill everyone.

The Rift Between Family and Duty

The biggest strength of ‘Doga Ki Adalat’ is its emotional drama. Inspector Surya’s father himself is ‘Justice Chaudhary’, who is known for his honesty. Surya’s brother ‘Bhanu’ was also present at the same party, but he too refuses to testify.

Surya and his sister ‘Kiran’ (who is an expert in criminal psychology) wonder why their own brother is avoiding telling the truth. Using her knowledge of criminal psychology, Kiran discovers that there was a third man at the party who switched off the lights, and that third man is none other than her own brother, Bhanu.

This revelation shocks the reader—when even the son of a judge becomes an accomplice of a criminal, from whom can justice be expected?

Doga’s Intervention: The Cure for Fear Is an Even Bigger Fear

When the law finds its hands tied, Doga steps in. Doga knows that Dandiya’s goons have instilled the fear of death in the hearts of the witnesses. Doga’s principle is very simple—”To eliminate the fear of the criminal, the fear of Doga must be created in the criminal’s mind.”

Doga selectively kills the goons who were threatening the witnesses. What he does to hired killers like ‘Knife Brother’ makes readers realize Doga’s ruthlessness and his passion for justice. He kidnaps Bhanu into the gutter pipes and makes him tell the truth.

Here Bhanu’s pain comes to the forefront. Dandiya had blackmailed him. Dandiya possessed some videos of Bhanu that would have tarnished not only Bhanu’s reputation but also Justice Chaudhary’s name. Blackmail and fear are the two weapons that the mafia uses to break the backbone of society.

Climax: When the Court Became a Battlefield

The ending of the story is no less than a Bollywood blockbuster. The hearing is going on in the court. Dandiya has managed to get the medical report changed to prove that Smita died not from a bullet but from a heart attack. But at the last moment, Bhanu stands up and gives his testimony.

Seeing their defeat as certain, Dandiya and his goons attack the court. Justice Chaudhary is assaulted. Just then, Doga enters by breaking the window. His famous dialogue—”It is a sin to come to a temple wearing shoes and to bring weapons to court”—echoes once again.

Doga and Dandiya engage in a fierce fight. Dandiya was not an ordinary villain; he had the amazing ability to stop bullets with his palm. But Doga is the disciple of ‘Black Pepper Chacha’. He counters every move of Dandiya with his ‘Black Pepper Art’ and gunpowder. At last, Doga finishes Dandiya and sends Chhotaiya to his rightful place (the hanging noose).

Key Points of the Review: Why Is It a ‘Must-Read’ Comic?

1. Realistic portrayal (Realistic Storytelling):
This comic depicts Mumbai’s underworld of the 90s very well. Blackmail, witnesses turning hostile, and the helplessness of the police under pressure from influential people—all these things seem equally relevant even today.

2. Doga’s character (The Vigilante Appeal):
Doga is not a hero with any superpowers. He fights on the strength of his training, weapons, and his determination never to give up. As soon as he wears the mask, he no longer remains ‘Suraj’ (his real name), but becomes the one who brutally punishes criminals.

3. Art and Inking (Visuals):
Naresh Kumar’s inking and Sunil Pandey’s color combination bring Mumbai’s nights to life. Doga’s heavily built body and his red eyes create fear. The scenes of gunshots, “Dhaay,” “Jing,” and broken bones have been portrayed very effectively.

4. Psychological angle:
Kiran’s use of criminal psychology adds a new dimension to the story. This is not just a story of fighting, but also a game of the mind.

Conclusion: Judgment of Doga’s Court

‘Doga Ki Adalat’ gives us a powerful message—”The scales of justice and crime can never be equal; one of them is always bound to outweigh the other.” If the protectors of society (like Bhanu) support criminals out of fear, the entire justice system will collapse.

Doga teaches us that justice has to be fought for, sometimes even by going beyond the rules. This comic was a gift to readers of the 1990s who loved serious and dark stories.

Some Interesting Facts for Google Discover:

• Did you know? Doga is the only superhero in Mumbai who has four uncles (Gadrak, Turmeric, Coriander, and Black Pepper) who train him in different disciplines.

• Court scene: The cover page of this comic, with Doga sitting in the judge’s chair, is one of Raj Comics’ most popular and most sought-after posters.

• Price journey: When it was released as a special issue, it cost just ₹20. Today, collectors are ready to pay a huge amount for its original print.
