Can a warrior whose body has been torn to pieces come back to life and save the world from destruction? Vishaparaj had such a boon that made everyone helpless, from the thunderbolt of Devaraj Indra to Nagraj Vasuki. The scary caves of the Sangla Valley, the poisonous vampire birds flying overhead, and a religious crisis where the hero had to choose his own death!

If you are bored with simple superhero stories and are looking for a true Indian fantasy full of tantra-mantra, deceit, and great wars, then this review of ‘Trikaldev Aur Vampire Raj’ is just for you.

What happened from the beginning to the end of the story?

The story starts in the palace of Kaushal Nagar. Due to ill health, the king sends his mighty son, Prince Trikaldev, as his representative to the ‘World Peace Conference’ organized by King Vikramsen of the neighboring state of Vikramgarh. Before leaving on the journey, the alert Trikaldev keeps his divine and powerful weapon, ‘Divyastra’, safe in the ashram of Maharishi Agnivesh.

When Trikaldev reaches the palace of Vikramgarh, human skulls and meat are served in the dining hall instead of delicious dishes. He sees that all the kings and guests there have turned into cannibalistic vampires. King Vishaparaj of Pishachaloka comes forward and reveals that he has killed King Vikramsen and the other kings and served their meat under the pretext of the World Peace Conference.

How did Vampire Raj become almost invincible?

The Vampire King asks Trikaldev for his divine weapon. Vishaparaj has received a boon from his presiding deity (Vishachadeva) that allows him to take away half the power of any of his rivals. Using this power, he absorbs half of Trikaldev’s powers and, along with his followers, leaves him half-dead.

Trikaldev, who is nearing death, establishes mental contact with his guru, Maharishi Agnivesh. Maharishi, through the power of his yoga and penance, saves Trikaldev from the clutches of the Vampire King, brings him to the ashram, and treats him.

When Trikaldev was killed by deceit

Maharishi Agnivesh tells Trikaldev that the real purpose of Vampire Raj is to become immortal by snatching the nectar from the gods. But the Vampire King had already learned that Agnidev’s divine weapon was the only obstacle in his path.

The Vampire King surrounds Kaushal Nagar with his huge vampire army and flying poisonous vampire birds. He threatens that if he is not given the Divyastra, the vampire birds will shower their poisonous blood on the people, causing them to melt to death like wax.

To protect the people, on the suggestion of Maharishi Agnivesh, Trikaldev hands over the divine weapon to Vishaparaj. As soon as he obtains the Divyastra, the Vampire King deceitfully launches a fatal attack on Trikaldev and breaks his body into pieces.

Return after death and the most dangerous journey

The Vampire King thinks that Trikaldev is dead. Since the one who destroyed the Divyastra would have been destroyed himself, the Vampire King hides the Divyastra in the mysterious caves of the Sangla Valley.

On the other hand, as soon as Vishaparaj leaves, Maharishi Agnivesh brings Trikaldev back to life by joining his severed limbs with the power of his mantras and changes his form. Maharishi sends him with three mighty divine allies to bring back the Divyastra:

  1. Parakalaka: The embodiment of the era of evil powers.
  2. Devayani: One who has control over fire and air.
  3. Yukrana: One who can make his way to Hades with a single bump of his head.

The four warriors reach the Divyastra in the Sangla Valley after facing fierce stone vampires, blood vampires, and giant serpents. Trikaldev regains the Divyastra.

The last battle of Devlok and the end of the Vampire King

Meanwhile, the Vampire King attacks Devlok after conquering half the world. He also neutralizes the powers of Nagraj Vasuki, Garuda, and Devaraj Indra. When the Vampire King is about to pick up the pot of nectar and drink it, Trikaldev reaches there.

A fierce war breaks out between the two. The Vampire King snatches the divine weapon from Trikaldev and burns him in the fire. But with the blessings of Lord Vishnu and the other gods, Trikaldev gains immense energy. Trikaldev reveals his two extra arms with his divine powers, tears off Vampire Raj’s arms, decapitates him, and finally defeats him.

The gods shower flowers on Trikaldev and bless him with immortality and immense powers.

Who was the most powerful and most dangerous?

• Trikaldev: The main protagonist of the story, who is not only physically powerful but also calm and a protector of his people. His willingness to sacrifice himself to save the lives of his people shows his noble character.

• Vampire King: A notoriously cruel, ambitious, and cunning villain. His boon of taking away half the power of his opponent makes him almost invincible.

• Maharishi Agnivesh: A symbol of knowledge, yoga, and wisdom. He knows that when the enemy is stronger, a war is won not by strength alone but also through strategy and deceit.

• Three allies (Parakalaka, Devayani, Yukrana): These characters add a brilliant touch of comic variety and fantasy to the story.

Does the story and artwork still impress today? (Visuals & Narrative)

Writing: Nazra Khan’s writing is fast-paced. There is no unnecessary deviation anywhere in the story, and every page brings a new twist.

Drawing: Bane Singh’s artwork showcases a style reminiscent of the 90s. The terrifying face of the Vampire King, the skeletal figures, and the battle scenes leave a deep impact.

Color scheme: Primary colors (red, yellow, and green) are used extensively, reminiscent of the era of old printing presses.

Are these comics still worth reading today? (Conclusion)

‘Trikaldev Aur Vampire Raj’ has every right to be included among the best and most popular comics from Manoj Comics. This comic not only entertains but also conveys the message that no matter how powerful falsehood and cruelty become, righteousness, wisdom, and patience ultimately determine their end. It is a memorable and must-read work for readers who love classic Indian comics and mythological fantasy.
