Doga Hi Hi Review: How Raj Comics Exposed Communal Hatred & Mob Psychology Through Doga
Doga Hi Hi shows the darkest moment in Doga’s journey—when rumors, religion, and mob mentality turn a city against its own guardian.

Raj Comics has given many big heroes to the world of Indian comics like Nagraj, Super Commando Dhruv, and Parmanu, but Doga’s identity has been different from the beginning. While other heroes were known for their strength, ideals, and moral values, Doga, i.e., Suraj, was a vigilante who did not walk within the limits of the law. If the culprit was in front of him, then the punishment was also decided there itself. He was the keeper of Mumbai—a keeper who had the anger, pain, and reality of the entire city running through his veins.

‘Doga Hi Hi’, written by Sanjay Gupta, came at a time when the social environment of India had become very sensitive. Rumors, hatred, and communal thinking were spreading everywhere. This comic is the link between ‘Doga Hindu Hai’ and ‘Apna Bhai Doga’, and together these three stories form a strong trilogy. In this part, Doga does not have to go through any physical fight, but through the biggest moral and social test of his life.

Conspiracy Trap

The story begins right where the previous part ended. The villain Bloodman has hatched a highly cunning and dangerous plot to ruin Doga. This time, the weapon is not a gun or a knife, but religion. Doga, who always stood with humanity and justice, suddenly starts being portrayed as a supporter of a particular religion. He is deliberately trapped in the image of “Hindu Doga”.

In the story, Dinanath’s daughter Alka bids farewell to Doga, but some rioters give a communal color to this occasion. A riot breaks out during the wedding of a Muslim family in the same area. Then a video emerges in which Doga is seen standing silently, while a Muslim bride is being mistreated.

The entire story revolves around this video. The same people who till yesterday considered Doga their Messiah today take to the streets and start raising slogans of ‘Doga Hi Hi’ and ‘Doga Murdabad’. Doga gets surrounded from all sides—not only by goons and rioters, but also by the same general public whom he had protected by risking his life for years.

Communalism and the Bitter Truth of Society

Through this story, Sanjay Gupta brings out a truth of society that is extremely painful. It shows how people can turn their own protector into an enemy within moments. It is clearly visible in the pages of the comic that a small rumor and a distorted video—fake news, in today’s language—can set an entire city on fire.

Mumbai, which Doga considers his home, has now become a stranger to him. The scenes of the riots are so vivid and frightening that one starts feeling uneasy while reading. People are ready to shed each other’s blood. The task of adding fuel to this fire is carried out by people like Bloodman, who want to make their business shine under the guise of religion and earn profits by selling blood.

Doga’s Character: A Helpless Hero

Usually, we have seen Doga breaking the bones of criminals and making them tremble with fear, but in ‘Doga Hi Hi’, a completely different side of him comes out. Here, he appears physically helpless and mentally broken. The conspirators had paralyzed him with the help of intoxicating barfi and dangerous chemicals, due to which he is unable to even move in that controversial video.

Doga’s biggest pain is not that people are beating him, but that he cannot raise his hand in response. The people standing in front of him are not criminals, but the same common citizens who have fallen into the trap of rumors. This is where Doga’s true morality comes to light. He may die himself, but he does not even think of shooting at the innocent people of his own city.

Police and Forensic Investigation: Truth from the Law’s View

A large part of the comic rests on the investigation by Inspector Khonpar and Khudura. This part becomes special because it highlights the role of patience and science rather than strength. Khudura, who has always been an opponent of Doga, tries to reach the truth instead of drifting with the crowd this time.

The forensic investigation reveals that the person who spat on Doga’s face had traces of a disease called pyorrhea in his saliva, which clearly indicates that he was not a common man but someone with a criminal background. Upon examining the video in depth, it is also revealed that the pupils of Doga’s eyes were completely stable. This was proof that he was drugged or frozen due to some chemical effect.

This entire section serves to convince readers that it is better to examine facts and evidence carefully rather than getting carried away by rumors and emotions.

The Character of the Fox: A Recognition of Loyalty and Courage

The Fox comes out as Doga’s greatest strength in this story. When the entire city and the whole world stood against Doga, she was the only one who tried to know the truth without questioning. It was she who pulled Doga back from the jaws of death.

The courage of the Fox is heart-touching in the sewer (gutter) scene, where an attempt is made to kill Doga by pouring acid. Without any long dialogue, the relationship between the hero and the heroine speaks volumes. This relationship becomes a symbol of trust, dedication, and silent understanding.

Drawing (Art) and Visual Presentation

Raj Comics’ artwork has always been strong, but the use of colors and shading in this comic makes the heavy atmosphere of the story even more effective. The use of red and orange colors in the riot scenes clearly shows the intensity of violence, fire, and hatred.

The scene in which Doga lies injured in the sewer and is surrounded by his dogs is extremely emotional. The artist has depicted the pain, fatigue, and helplessness hidden in Doga’s eyes in a very sensitive manner. Each panel maintains the pace of the story and keeps the reader engaged.

Villain: Symbolic Meaning of ‘Bloodman’

Bloodman is not just a villain, but he embodies the forces that take advantage of division in society. His ‘blood business’ is actually a business of hatred. He knows that if the image of a hero like Doga is tarnished, the backbone of law and order can be broken.

By defaming Doga, Bloodman wants to throw the city into the fire of chaos, so that in that fire he can bake both his power and profits.

Dialogue and Script

The comic’s dialogues hit the heart straight away. Especially those scenes where the crowd abuses Doga, or when Doga says in his mind, “I can mend my broken bones, but how do I mend the broken trust of society?”—these lines shake the reader to the core.

Here, the writing of Tarun Kumar Wahi emerges with full force. The dialogues not only take the story forward but also multiply its emotional impact.

Psychological Aspects: Crowd Mentality

This comic is an accurate and deep commentary on mob psychology. The crowd has neither a face nor independent thinking. Those who till yesterday considered Doga as God, today—after seeing the ‘Om’ locket deliberately planted around his neck—declare him a murderer.

This clearly shows that when a person wears the glasses of religion and hatred, the difference between truth and lies is completely erased.

Climax and Ending of the Story

The story ends on a tremendous cliffhanger. Doga is badly injured, the city is burning in flames, and the police administration feels helpless. Doga sobbing among his dogs and the sign of the sequel ‘Cried Doga’ leave deep sorrow in the hearts of readers.

Review Conclusion: Why Is This Comic Important?

‘Doga Hi Hi’ is not just a simple comic made for children. It is a serious and thought-provoking graphic novel. This story raises a strong voice against communalism. It shows that the most difficult time for a hero is when he has to face the hatred of his own people. It presents superheroes not as gods, but as common men—who can break, lose, and feel pain.

Final Thoughts

Sanjay Gupta and his team have given a new and courageous direction to Indian comics through this story. In today’s era of social media and fake videos, this comic feels even more relevant, where anyone’s image can be destroyed within minutes.

‘Doga Hi Hi’ is a story that brings tears to your eyes and also awakens the anger hidden within you. If you want to read a story that is not limited to superhero action but also understands the mentality of society and human behavior, then this comic deserves a place in your collection. This is one of the few Raj Comics stories that will be remembered for a long time.

Rating: 5/5
