Do you know why a brave inspector shot the dearest friend of his heart in the middle of the square? Manoj Comics’ Jhooth Bole Kauwa Kate is one such hair-raising story… that created a strange fear in the hearts of both children and adults in the ’90s. The story, in which an innocent childhood saying—”A liar is bitten by a crow”—became a bloody truth. A winged girl falling from the sky and innocent blood flowing through the streets… Was it a coincidence or the beginning of some deep revenge?
Today we will turn the black page of Manoj Comics (Special Issue No. 107), where a battle of friendship, duty, and deception was fought that leaves even today’s thriller cinema behind.
A medal, which was painted with ‘blood’!
The story starts with a scene that will leave you stunned. Inspector Speed (Shekhar), the fastest officer of the Mumbai Police, is being awarded the Gallantry Medal. The whole world is clapping, but Shekhar has tears in his eyes. He has killed his own childhood friend, Diwakar, in an encounter, who was proven to be a ‘dreaded murderer’ in the eyes of the law.

Shekhar felt that he had fulfilled his duty, but then a scream echoed through the gathering—”Kanav… Kanav…”
A shadow descends from the sky—black wings, red hair, and blazing anger in her eyes. This was ‘Kanga’. She kicked Shekhar’s medal to the ground and shouted, “You have murdered an innocent man, Shekhar! You’re not a protector, you’re a murderer.”
Who was this ‘crow girl’ Kanga?

Kanga was not an ordinary girl. She was a warrior raised in the lap of nature who had the power to control crows. She considered Diwakar her brother and protector. When Diwakar was implicated in a false conspiracy by the town’s influential people, Kanga vowed that she would put an end to all the ‘white-collar crows’ who were spreading the poison of lies in society.
Kanga’s fighting style was so terrifying that criminals would tremble at the sight of her. She would swoop down from the sky like an eagle and tear the flesh of her enemies with her sharp nails.
Conspiracy trap: When ‘friendship’ got punished

In the flashback, we learn that the real culprit is not Diwakar, but the city’s big industrialist, K., and his spoiled son, Monty. He had put the life of an innocent child in danger during a dog race. When Diwakar and Kanga raised their voices against him, Diwakar was implicated in a murder case with the help of the corrupt Inspector Gajraj.
Shekhar (Speed) was misled. He felt that his friend had gone down the wrong path. In that battle between duty and friendship, duty won, and Diwakar had to face Speed’s bullets. That last glance of Diwakar falling from a tall building gave Shekhar a lifetime of pain.
Flight of Vengeance: Kanga’s ‘Death War’

When the law became blind, Kanga decided to deliver justice on her own. This part of the comics is full of tremendous action. Kanga started hunting K.’s goons and corrupt officers one by one.
Highlight Scene: When Kanga attacks a moving helicopter (Pages 57-58). Criminals hanging in the air and firing bullets—this was the most daring ‘Aerial Action’ scene in the history of Manoj Comics. Kanga proved that the necks of those who lied would no longer be safe.
Climax: The end of ‘lies’ and a shocking truth!

The end of the story can surprise anyone. While the whole world thought Diwakar was dead, a ‘twist’ comes that changes Shekhar’s entire world. Diwakar was faking his death so that he could disguise himself and expose the real faces hiding behind the law enforcement uniform.
Together, Kanga and Diwakar shook the roots of that corrupt system. Shekhar realized his mistake and rejected his medal. The title of the story, Jhooth Bole Kauwa Kate, proved to be true when all those criminals were punished for their deeds.
