The list of arch-enemies of ‘Super Commando Dhruv’ in the Raj Comics universe is quite long, but there is one name among them that not only gave Dhruv a tough physical challenge but also became a major threat to the security of the entire world. That name is—Chumba (Chumba). Chumba’s character is not only dangerous because of his scientific powers, but his desire to rule the entire world also makes him a global threat.
Introduction and Powers of Chumba
Chumba is a villain whose entire strength is based on ‘Magnetism’ . He is not just an ordinary criminal, but also a highly intelligent scientist and a master strategist. His greatest power lies in his ability to transform his own body into magnetic particles .
Major Powers:
• Magnetic Control: He can pull any iron object toward himself or throw it away.
• Body Transformation: Chumba can transform his body into magnetic particles and travel from place to place through electrical wires or telephone lines. This makes it almost impossible to catch him.
• Magnetic Blast: He can release destructive magnetic rays from his hands that can rip through metals.
• Robotic Army: Chumba is so skilled in technology that he has created powerful robots and warriors like Drillman, Magneto, Turbine, and Radara.
First Appearance: ‘Chumba Ka Chakravyuh’ (The Origin of Terror)
Chumba’s story begins when he plans to steal India’s secret defense technology. His main goal is to acquire a ‘mini nuclear battery’, which was developed by the Government of India for testing the ‘Trishul Missile’.
Chumba kidnaps Gopalan, an officer of the ‘Indian Missile Centre’, to carry out his plan. He brutally murders Gopalan with the help of his robotic companions, ‘North Pole’ and ‘South Pole’ (who were powerful magnets). They tear Gopalan’s body apart, which clearly shows Chumba’s cruelty.
During this time, Super Commando Dhruv faces Chumba. Chumba creates a dangerous ‘Chakravyuh’ to trap Dhruv. One by one, he sends his warriors to fight him:
• Drillman: Who had a deadly drill in his hands.
• Turbine: Who attacked Dhruv underwater.
• Cacadal: A giant crab made of magnetic rays.
Dhruv defeats all of them with his wisdom, but Chumba kidnaps his sister Shweta (Chandika). At last, Dhruv and Chandika together discover Chumba’s secret hideout. Chumba had built a robot named ‘Magneto’, but Dhruv destroys it by hitting it with a missile. In the end, Chumba believes that he has won, but Dhruv neutralizes his magnetic powers and hands him over to the law. It is from here that Chumba develops hatred for Dhruv and an unknown fear (Phobia).
Psychological Decline and Resurgence: ‘Aya Chumba’
After going to jail, Chumba’s mental state starts deteriorating. He becomes so afraid of Dhruv that he begins seeing him everywhere. He is completely mentally broken and has terrifying nightmares. It is here that a mysterious twist comes into his story.
In his jail cell, he encounters a mysterious force named ‘Satan Dev’. Satan Dev rebukes him for his cowardice and incites him to move further down the path of sin. He gives Chumba a black stone/yantra named ‘Shayam Khand’, which increases his magnetic powers many times over.
After becoming more powerful, Chumba becomes active once again. This time, his goal is to obtain an ancient Indian treatise on chemistry, which contains a formula that could melt any metal in an instant. For this mission, he creates a highly advanced robot named ‘Radara’. Radara possesses an ‘X-ray radar sense’, allowing him to see even in complete darkness.
Chumba targets scientist ‘Nanaji’ and his granddaughter ‘Shyamali’. Dhruv protects Shyamali and confronts Radara. Eventually, Chumba succeeds in obtaining the confidential page and prepares a ‘universal solvent’ that could destroy any defense system in the world.
The Pinnacle of Ambition: ‘Chumba Samrat’
The most dangerous version of Chumba appears in ‘Chumba Samrat’. Now he is no longer just a criminal but has become a dictator. He stages a coup in India’s neighboring country, ‘Pastan’ (Fictional Pakistan). He takes the Prime Minister hostage and captures the entire army.
Chumba declares that he is no longer just ‘Chumba’ but ‘Chumba Samrat’ (Chumba Emperor), and that he will rule the entire world. He captures Pastan’s nuclear missiles and fills them with his ‘Universal Solvent’. To demonstrate his power, he destroys a US battleship by melting it in mid-air with his missile, spreading panic across the world.
Chumba becomes so powerful that he warns the United Nations and even the world’s superpowers to submit to his rule. He surrounds the capital of Pastan with a mist of ‘Universal Solvent’, so that no army can enter it.
Final War with Dhruv and Chumba’s Fall
Dhruv, Shyamali, and Chandika reached Pastan. There, they discovered that Chumba had replaced the real Prime Minister with a lookalike (Duplicate). For his protection, Chumba had created another warrior named ‘Springer’, whose limbs could extend like springs.
Dhruv demonstrated his scientific understanding. He found out that the antidote to the ancient formula that Chumba had stolen was also hidden in the back of the same manuscript. Dhruv took the help of his partner Karim through the internet and discovered a chemical that neutralized the ‘Universal Solvent’.
Dhruv reached Chumba’s palace in a tank. There, Chumba tried to create hallucinations in Dhruv’s mind with his magnetic powers so that he would go mad with fear. But Dhruv’s determination was so strong that Chumba’s waves could not affect him.
Dhruv broke Chumba’s magnetic armor. As soon as the armor broke, Chumba once again fell victim to his old fears. The fear of Dhruv buried deep in his mind resurfaced. In the end, his mental balance completely deteriorated. He started behaving like a madman, and his dream of becoming an ‘Emperor’ ended forever.
Character Analysis and Legacy
Chumba’s character begins as an ordinary thief and evolves into an international terrorist and then a dictator. Some important aspects of his biography are as follows:
• Scientific Genius: He is a specialist in metallurgy and electronics. The robots created by him became some of the biggest challenges for Dhruv.
• The Combination of Arrogance and Fear: Chumba is as arrogant as he is timid on the inside. His defeat at the hands of Dhruv became a deep psychological trauma.
• Global Thinking: Unlike other villains, he wasn’t limited to robbing banks or spreading terror in a single city. He made plans to wage war between countries and deal in nuclear weapons.
Conclusion:
Chumba is one of the few villains in the history of Raj Comics who forced ‘Super Commando Dhruv’ to think beyond his limits. He is a symbol of a brilliant mind that misused science, which could have benefited humanity if it had been used in the right direction. But greed and the hunger for power turned him into a psychopathic criminal instead of the ‘Chumba Emperor’. His story teaches that the arrogance of power and science ultimately leads a person toward destruction and mental downfall.
