Nagayan: Dahan Kand Review | Rise of Black Nagraj & the Darkest Raj Comics Saga
Black Nagraj emerges as the line between hero and villain dissolves in Nagayan: Dahan Kand

After the ‘Varan Kand’, ‘Grahan Kand’, ‘Haran Kand’, and ‘Sharan Kand ‘ episodes, the fifth part of this series, ‘Dahan Kand’, presents readers with a scenario that perhaps no one had ever imagined. This is the crucial turning point in the story, where the clear line between the hero and the villain gradually begins to blur. Here, the battle is not just external, but becomes a deep struggle of ideas, emotions, and existence.

Detailed Plot Analysis

The story of ‘Dahan Kand’ continues exactly where ‘Sharan Kand’ ended, with a terrifying suspense—Nagraj’s transformation into ‘Black Nagraj’. The entire story is divided into five main chapters, and each chapter progresses so rapidly that the reader doesn’t get a moment to rest.

Chapter 1: The Serpent Power
The story begins in Alandhya, located near Krupasha’s empire. Here, Prince Vishank arrives with his serpent army to rescue Visarpi. On the other hand, Krupasha uses the powers of ‘Black Hawk’ to humiliate and break him. This chapter clearly shows that the centuries-old enmity between the serpent race and the Garuda race has become even more dangerous with the addition of ‘Black Powers’. This clash between Vishank’s bravery and Krupasha’s arrogance fills the readers with excitement.

Chapter 2: Black Nagraj (The Fall of a Hero)
This is the most important and darkest chapter of this comic. In the dense forests of Dark Wood, Nagraj is now completely under the control of ‘Black Powers’. His body has turned black, and his eyes now reflect cruelty, not compassion. He is no longer the protector of humanity, but has become Krupasha’s most powerful warrior. From a distance, Baba Gorakhnath and Dhananjay witness this destruction, but they too feel helpless. Nagraj’s confrontation with his own guru, Drona (the bio-robot), becomes a historic and emotional scene. Drona tries to stop him with ‘death energy’, but Black Nagraj’s powers have now surpassed even divine weapons.

Chapter 3: Generation Next (The Personal Conflict)
Meanwhile, inside the metropolis, the Underground City, Super Commando Dhruva’s personal life has completely fallen apart. Natasha and Grand Master Robo cut off the city’s air and water supply to solidify their rule. Dhruva’s son, Rishi, is held captive by his own mother, Natasha. It is at this point that ‘Black Cat’, or Richa, enters the scene, attempting to rescue Rishi from Natasha’s clutches. This chapter shows how even a superhero, no matter how powerful, is torn and struggles between his family, relationships, and loyalty.

Chapter 4: My Son Vishank (The Biological Secret)
This chapter reveals a huge and shocking secret of the story. The conversation between Krupasha and Gurudev reveals that Vishank was not born in a normal way. He was created in an artificial womb by combining the cells of Nagpasha and the ashes of Maniraj, the deceased king of Nagdweep. Thus, Vishank is half the son of Maniraj and half the son of Nagpasha. This revelation completely shakes the emotional level of the story and raises questions about Vishank’s very existence.

Chapter 5: Deception (The Grand Deception)
The final chapter, ‘Deception’, revolves entirely around Nagina’s schemes and conspiracies. She appears before Nagraj in the form of an illusory power called ‘Sakar-Aakar’. Nagraj, who has now become Black Nagraj, fails to recognize her. Nagina continues to play her tricks to push him deeper into darkness. During this time, Dhruva learns the truth that the ‘Black Builder’ demon he had been fighting against was actually an illusion and a trap created by dark forces.

In-depth Character Analysis

Nagraj: From the Ideal Hero to ‘Black Nagraj’
In this part, Nagraj’s portrayal unfolds entirely as a tragedy. The hero who set out to save the world has now become a weapon of evil. His cry—“Hail Emperor Krurpasha!”—can break the heart of any Nagraj fan. Anupam Sinha has very effectively shown the mental conflict going on inside Nagraj through his facial expressions and body language.

Super Commando Dhruva: The Test of Loyalty
Dhruva emerges as the true ‘strategist’ of this entire series. Even though his closest friend Nagraj has changed, Dhruva’s faith remains unwavering. He is fighting on two fronts simultaneously—on one side, trying to save Nagraj, and on the other, struggling to protect his family, Natasha and Rishi. The synergy between Dhruva and Richa, along with Dhruva’s use of ‘Sniffer’ drone technology, proves him to be a powerful superhero of the modern era.

Kroorpasha and Nagina: The Alliance of Evil
Kroorpasha is no longer limited to just Nagpasha. He has now transformed into a monster who dreams of becoming the master of the entire universe. Meanwhile, Nagina is still playing her games from behind the scenes. Her ability to assume different forms like ‘Geena’ and ‘Sakar-Akar’ clearly shows that she is the most cunning and dangerous villain in this entire saga.

Vishank and Queen Yeti:
Vishank’s character is a unique blend of bravery and profound sorrow. He risks his life to save his mother, Visarpi, but ultimately discovers the truth that his entire existence is the result of an experiment. Queen Yeti and Jingaloo’s burning desire for revenge for their deaths gives the Yeti army a new purpose and direction.

Art and Illustration: Anupam Sinha’s Masterclass

The artwork of ‘Dahan Kand’ is a prime example of excellence in the Indian comics industry, where Anupam Sinha’s drawings and Sunil Kumar’s coloring combine to give readers a powerful and vibrant experience. Black Nagraj’s new form—his darkening body, bulging veins, and the burning red glow in his eyes—makes him not only terrifying but also incredibly impactful. This form breathes life into his epic battle with Drona and the fast-paced, energetic fights with Dhruva’s ‘Black Builder’. The true strength of this comic is also evident in its emotional paneling, such as the scene where Natasha sees a glimpse of Dhruva in Rishi, or Nagraj’s inner turmoil, which touches the readers’ hearts without any dialogue. Additionally, the use of purple and green colors to depict dark forces, and the contrast of orange-red colors for the flames of destruction, creates deep tension throughout the atmosphere, making this issue visually memorable for a long time.

Technical and Scientific Aspects (Science vs. Myth)

The greatest strength of the ‘Nagayan’ series is the unique blend of ancient mantras and modern science, which makes it a distinctive kind of ‘scientific thriller’. On one hand, the use of devices like the DNA analyzer and bio-scan by Dhruva to treat Richa’s illness connects the story to logic and science, while the scientific basis for Vishank’s birth—namely the artificial womb—makes it even more believable. On the other hand, the clash between Nagraj’s divine weapons and Krupasha’s ‘Black Cocoon’ death energy gives the story a grand, epic feel. Furthermore, the depiction of the world in 2025 in the comic’s background—where humans are forced to live in underground megacities due to global warming—serves as a serious warning about environmental destruction. This is why the story is not just a superhero adventure but also deeply connected to social issues.

Social & Psychological Depth

This comic doesn’t stop at being a superhero story, but also raises profound social and philosophical questions. The protagonist’s compulsions and weaknesses are vividly depicted, raising the question of whether even a great hero can lose his morals under the pressure of circumstances and turn to evil. Furthermore, Dhruva and Natasha’s divorce and the ongoing struggle for custody of their son demonstrate that, despite extraordinary powers, even a superhero’s personal life can be filled with complexities and emotional turmoil, just like any ordinary human being. Finally, Vishank’s confrontation with the truth of his existence—that he is a scientifically created ‘test tube baby’—reveals a profound existential crisis that can mentally shatter any person.

Review: Pros and Cons

Pros:
The ‘Nagayan’ series’ intense suspense and its vast canvas elevate it to the heights of Indian comics history. Each chapter ends with a twist that leaves the reader eager for the next part. The author’s greatest strength is that, despite paralleling four or five complex storylines—such as Vishank’s war, Nagraj’s downfall, Dhruva’s family conflict, and Nagina’s dangerous machinations—the story never deviates. The series’ greatest strength is its dark and serious tone, which takes mature readers on Nagraj’s most difficult and challenging journey yet, where darkness, pain, and bitter truths emerge more than glamour.

Cons:
The complexity of the ‘Nagayan’ series and its lengthy storyline may pose a challenge for some readers. If someone hasn’t read the previous four parts, ‘Dahan Kand’ may be a little difficult to fully understand. Furthermore, this eight-part series certainly tests patience, though its thrilling narrative keeps readers hooked until the end.

Impact on Readers and Future Expectations

‘Dahan Kand’ created a tremendous stir among readers in its time. Seeing Nagraj as a villain was nothing short of a shock. At the end of the story, when Vishank claims to have killed Krurpasha and Nagraj’s condition remains uncertain, readers’ excitement for the next installment, ‘Ran Kand’, reaches its peak.
Editor Sanjay Gupta rightly stated in ‘Green Pages’ that this series is a true ‘passion’ for Raj Comics. Furthermore, the advertisements for other comics like ‘Prem-Bala’, ‘Waphadar’, and ‘Fast Forward’ further fueled fans’ excitement at the time.

Final Conclusion and Rating

‘Nagayan: Dahan Kand’ is one of Raj Comics’ achievements to be proud of. It clearly proves that Indian superhero stories are no less than those of Marvel or the DC Universe. It is a memorable saga of sacrifice, valor, and the downfall of a hero, teaching us that no matter how powerful evil becomes, truth and friendship—especially Dhruva’s loyalty—always find a way.
If you’re a fan of Indian comics and haven’t read ‘Nagayan’ yet, you’re missing out on a very special chapter in comics history.

Final Rating: 4/5 (Masterpiece)

and the concept of heroism in Indian comics. Dhruva Nagayan Dahan Kand is the most intense and psychologically complex chapter of Raj Comics’ legendary Nagayan series redefining Nagraj Vishank
